Elizabeth Mays steps down as APFED President

"On behalf of the APFED executive board, it is with great sadness that we accept the resignation of Elizabeth Mays, effective immediately. Beth Mays has selflessly supported the needs of families across the globe and grown Apfed into the amazing organization it is today. The Apfed Board stands behind Beth in her decision to pursue other career opportunities. We wish her nothing but the best in the days ahead."

National Eosinophil Awareness Week

Thank you to everyone who participated in May Awareness Events, which will be highlighted in the upcoming summer newsletter. Our LA Awareness Event with Demi Lovato and Ned Specktor was a huge success, achieving our goal of educating the public and spreading awareness about eosinophilic disorders. Ms. Lovato and Mr. Specktor will continue as APFED ambassadors of education through 2010.

Demi Lovato tickets are available on eBay. 100% of proceeds benefit APFED! Just search “Apfed” on eBay, tickets will be posted 1-2 weeks before the concert date. If you don’t see your city, check back in a few days.

APFED Event Honoring Demi Lovato and Ned Specktor (Video)

Dear APFED Readers:

Around 3 a.m. my day begins by waking with diarrhea and vomiting. After a couple of hours rushing to the bathroom sweaty and nauseated, it is time to get ready for school. I suffer multiple symptoms including difficulty swallowing, nausea and vomiting, abdominal and chest pain and many more. Eosinophilic Disease is not curable, at least not yet, and I can only manage the symptoms by getting an amino acid formula through a feeding tube that was surgically placed into my stomach.

I often dream about being able to do the things that normal kids my age do. But the thing I want most of all is to have the opportunity to go through the day not feeling sick. I really do not know what it is like to get a good night's sleep, wake up without feeling nauseous, and get through a day without throwing up and having diarrhea.

Most people don’t understand the struggles of living with an Eosinophilic Disease because the disease is not known by many people. This gala, honoring two special people that have educated themselves about the disease and dedicated themselves to spreading awareness will help all of those who live with an Eosinophilic Disease. Awareness will lead to advances in treating Eosinophilic Disease and maybe, one day my dream will become a reality.

-Sarah

The American Partnership for Eosinophilic Disorders is a non-profit advocacy organization for those living with eosinophilic esophagitis, eosinophilic gastroenteritis, eosinophilic colitis, hypereosinophilic syndrome, and other eosinophilic disorders. We are a resource for patients, their families, physicians and the medical community.

APFED provides accurate, up-to-date information on eosinophilic disorders and related problems. Our goals are to increase awareness, educate patients and physicians, increase funding for research and provide support for the eosinophilic community.

HOPE CHALLENGE

APFED supporters again exceeded our goals, donating over $170,000 to the HOPE research fund in 2008! Donations to HOPE on the Horizon are applied 100% to eosinophil related research. Our goal is to double the HOPE Research Fund again in 2009!  If everyone who reads this donates a minimum of $10 OR MORE! we will reach our goal. We ask everyone who visits the APFED web site for to watch our "Just A Glimpse" and Life without Food” videos. After viewing it, consider sharing it and send the link to it to your entire address book. With the community coming together we can make a tremendous impact for now and for the future of eosinophil associated disorders.
There is Hope on the Horizon, and together, we can reach it.

Thank You.
