Unite for EoE. Know the Signs.
The inaugural World EoE Day is a global effort to raise awareness about eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) — a chronic, allergic inflammatory disease of the esophagus that can cause difficulty swallowing, food impactions, and lead to complications if left untreated.
Help us spread the word, educate the public, and support those around the globe affected by EoE.
About Eosinophilic Esophagitis (EoE)
EoE happens when eosinophils, a type of white blood cell, build up in the esophagus. This causes inflammation that can lead to:
- Feeding difficulties in children
- Trouble swallowing (dysphagia) and regurgitation
- Food getting stuck in the throat (impaction)
- Reflux symptoms that don’t improve with medication
- Narrowing of the esophagus over time
EoE is often misdiagnosed or missed altogether, meaning many people go years without the right care.
Learn the Signs of EoE and Talk to a Doctor if You Recognize Symptoms
If you or someone you know struggles with ongoing swallowing problems or unexplained digestive discomfort, talk to a doctor. Early diagnosis can make a difference.

Check out the Could it Be EoE? guide. If you suspect you or a loved one might have EoE, we encourage you to download this guide and speak to a healthcare provider about symptoms you are experiencing.

Answering a few quick questions will help you to know if you should talk to a doctor about the possibility of EoE. This quiz is offered by the American Gastroenterological Association.

APFED’s Specialist Finder helps you locate healthcare providers who have experience with diagnosing and treating eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE).

May 22 is World Eosinophilic Esophagitis (EoE) Day—a condition that hits close to home for me! EoE is a chronic disease where white blood cells cause inflammation in the esophagus, leading to pain, difficulty swallowing, and a life of food restrictions. I’m sharing this to help more people understand what EoE is and why awareness matters.
